Maya Hawke - Blush

Maya Hawke may be the child of two very famous parents, but it doesn't feel as if she has had to overcome their shadows. While her mother, Uma Thurman, is a famous model and actress and her father, Ethan Hawke, is a singer, actor and author, Maya Hawke's rise to fame has been via her own looks and abilities rather than by association. Having started as a model, she is currently best known for her role in Stranger Things, while her music has been starting to resonate with wider audiences.

As she releases her debut album, Blush, which follows in the wake of a series of really stunning singles, she finds herself aligned with some of the folk worlds greatest contemporary talents, most notably Molly Tuttle - who shares echoes of Jewel throughout her work.

However, Blush is not your average folk record. With a rock sensibility and pop awareness, Blush is a very cleverly crafted debut that places as much focus on compelling lyrics as it does the tender delivery.

While the simply sensational Hold The Sun is a clear crowning moment of glory, the entirety of Blush is a winning compilation. River Like You boasts a maturity well beyond her years, while lead single By Myself is an anthem that will not just endure through the years, but will grow in depth as the artist performing it grows too.

In a year of impressive debut releases, Blush is a real stand out.
