Musical Motivation: Taurie

Taurie is a multi-faceted, multi-talented star in the making. She embodies the diverse beauty and traditions of her Nigerian Native American heritage which also enrich and influence her music which encompasses many genres including pop, R&B, Hip-Hop and more. Add to that her musical versatility, playing no less than five musical instruments – piano, keyboard, acoustic guitar, electric bass and ukulele, as well as being a consummate singer, song writer, producer, choreographer and dancer. Still only 23, Taurie displays the personal wisdom and artistic maturity of someone much older and is fondly referred to as an ‘old soul in a young body’ by her peers and friends alike. Now this ‘old soul’ releases her new single ‘Aesthetics’ – so we caught up with her to find out what songs make her...

Smile

“All for You” - Janet Jackson

The video is so vibrant. Her choreography along with the comic book concept just makes me smile and dance along.

Contemplate

“Lullabies” - Yuna

This woman has a voice that will touch your soul. Very soothing, very melodic, and extremely poetic. I listen to her a lot which drives my creativity.

Cry

“Breathe Me” - Sia

I was going through a very tough time when I heard this song. I felt alone and misunderstood. I felt as though her lyrics knew what I was feeling. “…be my friend, hold me, Wrap me up, enfold me, I am small and needy, Warm me up and breathe me..”

Laugh

“I Write Sins Not Tragedies” - Panic! At The Disco

I love watching the video, it cracks me up. The storyline is definitely entertaining. I also love singing along with my mom & sister.

Want to work out

“Anybody” - Burna Boy

I actually play this song multiple times during my workout sessions. The entire song motivates me. He’s one of my favorite fellow Nigerian artists.

Reminisce

“Ironbound/Fancy Poultry” - Suzanne Vega

This song brings me back to my childhood memories. My mom and I would just drive around singing along to her CD. It’s a special song for my special memories.

Relax

“No Ordinary Love” - Sade

Her voice is so melodic and soft. I play this song during my yoga sessions with some candles. I grew up listening to Sade thanks to my mom.

Feel Determined

“I’m Feeling You” - Santana ft Michele Branch, The Wreckers

When I was growing up, that was our ‘get up and go’ song each morning we were getting ready for school.

Dance

“Got Me Good” - Ciara

I would literally watch that video over and over again trying to the moves down. My mom and I would do it together. Ciara is an overall amazing artist with so killer dancing skills.
